roux’s review of SB LII

By | February 5th, 2018|Team|1 Comment

As many of us eased into our new found roles as Philadelphia Eagles fans, the roux team was eager to cheer on our team and decide on the best 2018 Super Bowl commercials. The game did not disappoint as our (new) favorite team took the victory in an exciting and hard-fought match.

Many of the commercials were great, too. Our top picks are below.

    • Dirty Dancing  An NFL ad featuring Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. is a perfect mix of awkwardness and hilariousness proving no one puts OBJ in a corner.

From the moment we are born, we begin to die.  I personally have never been afraid of death, and yet I’ve always been interested in keeping my body healthy so that while I am on this earth, I can live life to the fullest.  Up until recently, my focus has primarily been physical health…and then last year happened.

2017 was rough for me for various reasons.  As the year progressed, I found myself growing increasingly frustrated and agitated.  I’ve never been one to turn away from conflict in a “fight or flight” situation and yet, every situation was beginning […]

Lady Fingers

By | January 12th, 2018|Recipes|0 Comments

I decided to share my grandmother’s cookie recipe that I remember her always baking around Christmas.
  • 1 lb margarine
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 6 cups sifted flour
  • 2 cups pecans
Mix ingredients: add flour slowly until a hard dough is formed.  Roll the dough out into a tube “about the length of your finger” and pinch into small pieces. Press onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for ~ 20 minutes. Let cool, then roll in powdered sugar.  Makes three 12” pans of cookies.

Amazing Coconut Pie

By | December 5th, 2017|Recipes|0 Comments

At my family’s holiday gatherings, food was always “semi-homemade”.  Here’s an easy recipe for a crowd-pleasing dessert that doesn’t require hours in the kitchen.

1.  Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
2.  While oven is heating, blend the following ingredients in a blender until smooth:
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Bisquick mix
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3.  Fold in 1+ cup shredded coconut
4.  Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until the center is done.
